Mr Norm was definitely the place to go for Mopar performance. It had to have been awesome going into that dealership during it's performance years and having to decide what kind of mopar muscle you wanted.

For Scat Pack Dodge and Rapid Transit guys it was as close as any dodge Plymouth dealer and then walk over to the parts counter and speak with HiPo parts guy, AKA “Direct Connection“ The founding roots of direct connection were started by Dick Maxwell who was one of the Ram Charger racing team member.

Mr Norms was around in downtown Rockford by the old Chrysler dealership. I believe Tim Barth was there before doing his own thing.

Nickey (at least the same name) is now in the Rockford area as well.

I remember when the first Challengers came out in 09, there was one at Byron Dragway running in the 10s. Had Norm or Mr Norm on the license plate. I should see if I can find some of those pics.

Still wish SRT/Mopar would sell kits like they did for the SRT4 Neon.

A hellcat with a pulley, tune etc. The Demon is a perfect example of that. 808hp is fine. But if you want an extra 40hp etc, buy this ECU and switch panel. I think this is the way they should have sold the Demon kit and kept it going. Charge for performance packages on top of the car.

Back in '68 I worked next door to Dana Chevrolet ( South Gate Ca ). They were putting 427's in Camaros, Impalas, and Novas. About every couple of hours they would road test a finished project for a customer and I just drooled. God I wanted one of those so bad but I didn't have a pot to piss in at the time. In '69 I started doing much better and bought a Charger R/T 440.

Baldwin Motion...Remember that well. As a teen I remember seeing their ads and trying to decide if I would get the Stage 3 etc. 800 HP? Could barely afford a bicycle at the time but dreaming is half the fun. Back in 2004, I almost bought a blue 69 Camaro with a 427 that was a Baldwin Motion replica with logos, etc. It was not the real thing but was a well done knock off. Bad ass cars back in the day.

Ah yeah Mr. Norm was in his 70's when that now closed garage was modifying all makes back in the early 2000's in Rockford.
The dealership on Grand Ave and Spaulding Ave was the real deal in the 60's and early 70's in Chicago..

60 years ago, a friend of mine had a '69 Dodge Dart Swinger 340. That thing was a real sleeper and was exceptionally fast for what it was. We were cruising a well known Blvd down in SoCal (can't remember the name) and came across a '69-'70 Nickey Nova with a 427 in it. We shouldn't have tangled with it; we got our asses handed to us. I had / have a lot of respect for the Nickey Novas !
