Dash Blistering, Ugh...

2015 Charger Hellcat.

Had the center console sides replaced, as well as the driver door panel... all because they blistered and separated, from the substrate.

Well, with this recent heat, my dash is "lifting and separating", at the leading edge, right in the center.

Looks like a trip, to the dealer. Sigh.

This one ain't going to be cheap.

Damnit!

I hope the replacement isn't from the same crappy lot, as these early panels...

If you’re going to have to pay for R&R and parts why not try some adhesive yourself before bringing it in? I mean if it’s going to be a loss, why not try?

I tried several adhesives, on my console bolsters, to no avail.

I was told FCA had serious issues, with their supplier, on early builds... and that they have switched suppliers. My console and door panel are doing fine.

This chit is truly irritating.

Me too, but my dark ass tint helps I think. This is the first car I’ve ever had with the front fully tinted and love it

The door panel/dash warping in the sun seems to only happen to the Chargers….or at least I don‘t recall hearing this happening on the Challengers…hope you get it fixed!

Tint might not be a bad idea at all to prevent the overheating and warping…

Bob that sucks, but plastic linear expansion rate is unusual high compared to the metal they are attached to. Heat is the enemy here and caused the panel to warp. not a manufacturers defect in the part. How HOT do you think that dash got setting in the sun? If the clips holding the panel can't allow the panel to expand to the limits. It has to give somewhere and now you know where.

You could have had a hot meal ready for you when you came back to your car. I'd lay odds the dash was in excess of 200 deg when that happened. Maybe they should design it for the heat of a Forest Fire Manufactures design for extremes from -20 to +140 or more but there are limitations to all extremes.

When you leave your car to cook in the boiling sun. Things like this will happen even with a replacement. Do you use a sun screen in your windshield to stop the solar heat from imparting excessive heat on the dash? even a towel across the dash may have prevented this.

Plastic substrate, not metal.

Same build on the console bolsters and driver door panel, which also failed.

Dealer told me they had so many failures, they switched suppliers... much like the fuel pump fiasco.

Ahhh. OK....they have that same "no tint on windshield" rule here in WI... Only other thing you might try on hot sunny days as mentioned...one of those fold-up sun screens for the windshield when you park it (or a towel). I'm surprised the console and door panels still warped with all the side and back windows tinted!

While the sun's heat may exacerbate the problem, I believe it is a defect in manufacturing that is at issue, here.

Shouldn't happen, on an $80k ride, regardless.
