Happy Memorial Day from across the sea! I was fortunate enough to spend last Memorial Day driving around Normandy and checking out all the spots where our boys landed and began their fight to liberate Europe and it was really incredible to see first hand the things they had to overcome and the equipment they had to accomplish their mission. They truly were the Greatest Generation!
I hope everyone gets a chance to reflect on the sacrifices that so many of our fellow Americans have made to allow us to enjoy our way of life. Even though we aren't allowed to travel outside the country right now, I plan to visit one of the American Military Cemeteries as soon as our restrictions are lifted. Including Normandy, I've had the honor of visiting 4 of our Military Cemeteries here in Europe and hope to visit many more while I'm here.
If you're ever in Europe, I'd highly suggest taking an extra day if you could to visit one of these sites, they are quite moving!
Here's a link to a review (not mine) of the cemetery in Luxembourg. https://www.roadtripsaroundtheworld.com/the-luxembourg-wwii-cemeteries-the-american-cemetery-the-german-cemetery/
The neat thing about that link is that reviewer also covers a visit to the near by German military cemetery. Having been to both myself I can tell you that each one provides a much different experience. We celebrate our fallen with beautiful monuments and perfect landscapes while the German side simply and humbly provides a final resting place for the men who also gave their lives for their country.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Memorial Day!
