Key Fob Battery Change Time

Walking back to car from my kids event, fob completely dead. Luckily opening driver's door connected again. Coming up on 3 years so I decided to change all 3. Hardest fobs I have ever changed. Used a plastic razor blade to get fob separation started then followed by a small screw driver for the rest. Minor scratch on black fob (who cares) as screw driver is too harsh to get separation started. Hope this helps...

Noticed others have had there batteries go bad around the 3 year mark as well. Thought storing them in safe away from car recognizing them constantly (when not driving) may cause more longevity. Guess not...

When you pull out the physical key there is a groove in the fob so you can use the key to pry it open.
One thing I have found with older fobs is pulling up on the prongs inside gently. Helps to ensure the fob will work properly after the battery change. I have had a few that I needed to squeeze the fob so the buttons would work periodically.

Mine were sealed shut. Emergency Key wasn't doing it, but maybe I gave up too soon. Good info moparjim. Thanks.

I change the batteries in all our fobiks once a year. Cheap insurance. 2010 Jeep SRT8 fobiks are the most battery sensitive of the bunch.

Our '18 Challenger one's started to go this winter. Went to start the car with the fob and nothing tried the spare key nothing. So at 1st thought it may be something else since spare is never used. Changed the batteries and both work now. So it doesn't seem to matter if you use it everyday or not they still go at the same time

I've been thru the same. Works..works..works..DEAD.

If needed, placing the fob on the start button while pushing to start, works. (or holding it really close!)

Mine went right around 3 years too, ditto the Durango FOB.

I open mine with a flat blade screwdriver. I wrap the tip in a bit of old t-shirt to keep it from gouging up the plastic.

Good question. These are what I had in stock...says they are lithium on the back. Will find out in 3 years...

As stated above, no need to mar up the fob. Just remove the spare key and pry up on a tab that's there specifically for that.

Did mine a year or two back. Pain in the ass, but par for the course. Also turned off the "remote unlock" RFID BS just to be on the safe side (none of that remote theiving going on here, but you never know).

My display showed FOB battery low. Stayed like that for a year. Finally had both red ones changed out. Had it done at a battery shop 5 minutes and $20 a piece.

Both my red keys started working intermittently a couple weeks ago.
