With that said, I think Dodge could pull off a bad ass Neon/Dart type of car. To hook people into the brand which used to be the way to do things.

Now it seems the American companies are happy letting Kia/Hyundai handle that role. Problem, most people then tend to stick with that brand.

Thats what always amazed me, what got me hooked on Mopar (more specifically Plymouth) was my first car. A Plymouth Cuda.
I see it a lot, kids (in this case) buy a used Honda and stick with the brand they are familiar with for many years (and some times their whole lives).
If you have an entry level product in your brand you can use that to pull them in on their next purchase, when they need a solid car for their family... use that as leverage. You don't pull brand loyalty with a car thats in the middle to upper end of the cost spectrum - and you lose long term sales because you only look at the short term. They dropped the Neon and the Dart because of short sided thinking. I remember Chrysler (maybe Fiat?) saying the Dart didnt make "enough" money... fix your marketing and product to match the market you should be selling to... frustrating see the Mopar brand being flushed down the toilet by business men and bean counters...

Actually the Neon did OK.

Dart was a complete disaster along with the 200. Built on the same platform as the Cherokee, these cars just didn't work for some reason.

I have had a couple Neons and I currently own a Dart... are they perfect? No, but they are decent and could have been been improved pretty easily in my mind. I still see a lot of both of them on the street, so they still sold a lot of them...
