Oh definitely, that's already been established in one of
@motorhead 's threads awhile back on his car. Just as much as possible on new car. No sunroof, boom box etc. PLUS the fact that they're know to go @4450-4550 and mine weighed out at 4280 (no mods) I thought was surprising
And people thought I was crazy. The old school "stripper" car vs. the new car "stripper" are two very different animals. Just because certain tech or convenience features are now standard (A/C, stereo, power seat(s), safety, tires/wheels, etc). So now it is more about opting out, than opting in.
I have two cars built on the same 80s platform in my garage - one's a wagon that is now loaded with damn near every factory option (and some that weren't) and the other is a coupe that has nothing left but heat and power windows. I bet there is a 500lbs difference between those two vehicles.
Conventional wisdom says that the alacarte optioning introduced in 2019 can get a HC Challenger down a similar amount. It just comes with lots of standard equipment. Especially if you go crazy and delete the rear seat. Ounces become pounds really quick. From 2015-18 you took what you were given... and that resulted in a huge weight penalty. I figure by the time I get a Sparco in my HC I'll have 200lbs out of the interior alone. Plus all the stuff my car just doesn't have from all those grouped options that is damn near impossible to remove (including the special Redeye bits)... ever.
I'd be stoked if I could get this thing down to a sub-4000lb race weight at the drags.
