My grandfather had Studebakers before buying Dodges and Chryslers.

Both of my grandfather's died at a young age. One was a gambler who disappeared.
both my granfather's were centurions

I remember both my gradfathers drove DeSoto's..before Chryslers
My grandparents didn't drive, they lived in the tiny downtown and walked to work. Soon as I got my license, I became a chauffeur.

I knew nothing about over revving an engine. Broke the crank. It was the 64 Fury wagon.

Burnt exhaust valves on the 318 Polara my parents had. I was hard on cars.
Blew up my 340 TA Challenger. Windowed the block.

That was exactly what I was considering as the alternate to the HC!!! Fortunately the HC won! :)

Did you dyno it?
Never did. I tried to just use the canned tune which was supposed to be good for 120 extra ponies, but they sent me the tune for 43# injectors and the kit came with 60# injectors. So, I was getting fuel trim CELs. Luckily, Magnuson’s chief calibration engineer, Mark Blaha, worked out of a speed shop in Canton, MI developing new kits for new GM, Ford and Mopar cars. Since Mark was only an hour away, I left it there for a couple days so he could tune it. He did a great job and I got a free custom tune. My best guess was maybe 480 at the crank, but who knows?

Definitely not in the Hellcat’s league, but a fun car.

Not bad! :)

The stock, idiot proof 346/350 sure was amazingly low maintenance and astonishingly reliable, and FUN! Never had any significant problem with it. Only real prob was finding out that only a skilled Hunter RFV tech could balance the aftermarket wheels. Too bad they don't make them like they used to. :(

I think I had more fun in my ‘68 Cortina GT than any of my cars. Only about a hundred hp, but I put a hd sway bar in the back and raced in parking lot gymkhanas. Easy to oversteer and drift. Quartz iodine driving lights that lit up like the lights search helicopters use, for drivers who wouldn’t dim their brights. Loved the instrument cluster and the car weighed next to nothing. Plus, I was young and stupid.

Pretty much been a Mopar guy since I started driving. My First car was a 1972 Plymouth 340 Cuda, but I was considering whatever I could afford, looking at a 67 Impala, and a '57 Chevy, I was actually going to look at a Chevy Vega when I found the Cuda. The Cuda was wrecked sitting in the carport, covered by a tarp - I sat in the drivers seat and fell in love at first sight, being that it was wrecked the price was right down my alley.
I was 17 at the time and any car was better than what I had. I had to pay for the Cuda with my own money and my mother said No more than a couple times before she finally let me buy it (lol). But, I still have the car after more than 40 years.

My father had a body shop, he and his partner only drove Mopars, mostly 383's, Newports, wagons, some 318's. He liked them because he never liked working on his own cars, these V8 Mopars, especially the 383, would go for almost forever without a tune-up!

I hated those overweight beasts that were not very fast, couldn't stop or make a turn! Probably why I became a GM guy.
Also grew up with my dad's body shop at our house, I used to get the job of sanding door frames by hand starting at about 8 yrs old:ROFLMAO::mad: can anyone say slave labor? Worked for him until I turned 17 and got a factory job and married. Dad wasn't great at making the weekly payroll:rolleyes: not that he didn't have the money, but I had to bug him every week to remember pay me for my hours.
Mom had a small diner and the wife and SILs all worked for her, everything was definitely a family affair.
Working for dad got me a lot of experience, knowledge and opportunity to acquire quite a few great cars over the years. I bet I've had 100 plus different vehicles over the 35 years with most of them between 1986 and 2000 but bought my first Chrysler product in 1995 when I bought a new Dodge Ram 1500 sport.

Mustangs were my introduction to the world of drag racing. Here's just a few of them ...
